Pain and Illness in My Life
My “chronic pain life” started in 2012 with a continued progressive worsening of my symptoms. I have been diagnosed with a severe case of Internal Disc Disruption/Derangement and Endometriosis of the spine. I understand the need to have tools to manage the stress and challenges that chronic pain and illness bring to one’s life. I am passionate about teaching others how transformative therapeutic photography and mindfulness can be in this regard.

  1. I just wanted to drop a quick email to salute the work that you are doing with people living with Chronic Pain. I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in my early twenties, and while I am very blessed that my pain is not constant and ranges from 0 to 8 when it does occur, I understand the difficulties that this causes many people. To that end, I took the training for the University of Victoria, Centre on Aging’s Chronic Pain Self Management peer led workshops and quite enjoy facilitating. I have done eight workshops now and love each and every group. Whether people have back pain, fibromyalgia, diabetes pain or other, when they have the moment of realizing that they can set small goals and celebrate their achievements… there is nothing better.
Specifically, I started a Sociology Class today and the instructor, Geri Bemister, let me know of your group and I thought it important to reach out!

  2. Hi Samantha,
Thank you so much for commenting. I, too, took the Self Management program and thought it was amazing. For the first time I wasn’t alone. I would love to be a facilitator of the program but my pain prevents me from being able to take the training. Fabulous that there are people out there like you who are able to offer caring and enthusiasm through the program.

So I offer my monthly support group which is what I can handle and it has been absolutely amazing!! I would love to know how Geri Bemister learnt about my group.

Thanks again for your note as it is encouraging to me to keep doing what I am doing!!!

    All the best to you!
